About Judith A. Longfield

Judith A. Longfield received a B.S. in secondary education from the University of Wisconsin in 1970, and a M.S. in educational administration & curriculum from Northern Illinois University in 1977. She then earned a C.A.S. in educational administration from Northern Illinois University in 1985, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana University in 2006.

Since 2009, Longfield has served as a Professor in the Center for Excellence in Teaching at Georgia Southern University. Previously, she served as an Intern at Northern Illinois University, an Assistant Instructor at the University of Hawaii, an Associate Instructor in the School of Education at Indiana University Bloomington, and as an Assistant Professor in School of Education at Indiana University-Northwest in Gary.

Longfield's research interests focus on areas including the training of new faculty and preservice teachers, the modeling of best practices, and problem- and inquiry-based teaching-learning. Presently, she is experimenting with and researching “discrepant teaching events” and its impact on conceptual change in a variety of academic settings and disciplines.

Longfield has been the recipient of the Outstanding Teacher of America Award from Chicago Ridge in 1973, the Outstanding Associate Instructor Award from the School of Education at Indiana University in 2003, a Dissertation Grant from Indiana University in 2004, the P. Cross Future Leaders Award nomination from the American Association for Higher Education in 2004, the Leiber Outstanding Associate Instructor Award from Indiana University in 2004, the Founder’s Day Teaching Award nomination from Indiana University Northwest in 2005, and nominated for the American Educational Research Association's Division K Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award in 2006.
