About Marian E. Czarnik

Marian E. Czarnik received her Ph.D. in British Literature and Literary Criticism from Indiana University, Bloomington, in May, 1993. Her dissertation was on the relationship between children’s literature and the Victorian novel. During her time at IU, she received the Lieber Memorial Teaching Associate Award.

After graduating, she joined the faculty at Alverno College in August, 1993. Czarnik specializes in British literature and an integrated arts and humanities curriculum. She teaches courses on the Victorian novel, British modernism, film, the short story, feminist theory, as well as introductory courses in the arts and humanities.

Dedicated to educational reform at all levels, she has conducted workshops on teaching for elementary school teachers, served as a consultant to the public school system on developing a humanities curriculum, and delivered papers on teaching the arts and popular culture in humanities courses. She also is interested in professional issues in higher education, and has participated in panels on tenure, peer review, and graduate school training.
