Paul Smolensky received his A.B. summa cum laude in physics from Harvard University in 1976. He then earned his M.S. in physics in 1977, and his Ph.D. in mathematical physics in 1981 from Indiana University.
Smolensky serves as the Krieger-Eisenhower Professor of Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University. His primary areas of research focus on Universal grammar — Optimality Theory, phonology, syntax, acquisition, learnability & processing.
