Silke von der Emde earned her Ph.D. in German from Indiana University in 1994. As an Associate Professor of German at Vassar College, she focuses largely on contemporary German literature, film and culture, but is also the co-director of a large Holocaust initiative at Vassar. She is the author of Entering History: Feminist Dialogues in Irmtraud Morgner’s Prose, written in 2004, as well as many articles on feminist theory, German film, and GDR literature. With her colleague, Jeffrey Schneider, she developed the award-winning Intermediate German Sequence using the online bilingual environment MOOssiggang. Also with Schneider, she has also published several articles in prominent, peer-reviewed journals and books, relating to technology and foreign language pedagogy.
