More recent work has shifted to issues of academic administration and the pedagogy of chemical education including placement efficacies and peer-led team learning strategies. Through his efforts, IUPUI now has one of the largest programs in PLTL in the country in chemistry, where student success has improved over 40%. He was also a member of the Project Kaleidoscope U.S. Delegation to China addressing innovative pedagogies in science.
Professor Malik is active in the American Chemical Society, serving as a member of the Society Committee on Education, its Vice Chair, and a member/chair of numerous ACS Task Forces and other committees. He was previously Chairman of the Board of Directors, Central Region, of the ACS. He has served on editorial advisory boards of various journals.
