Linda L. Haas, Ph.D., professor of sociology and adjunct professor of women’s studies, began her career at IUPUI in 1977 in the sociology department of the School of Liberal Arts. She was a founding member of University College, an elected member of FACET (Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching), directed the interdisciplinary Women’s Studies Program from 1987 to 1990, and served as the acting Associate Dean of University College in 2002-03.

She has received the IU President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the IUPUI Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring, the School of Liberal Arts Outstanding Faculty Award, and eight Trustee Teaching Awards.

Her research program focuses on gender and work in Sweden. This research has been funded by the Ford Foundation and the Swedish Council for Work Life and Social Research; she has also received competitive fellowships from the American-Scandinavian Foundation, the Wettergren Foundation, and the Swedish Council for Work Life and Social Research. Her research on Sweden has resulted in two books, 34 refereed articles and book chapters, two of which have won national recognition in the area of work-family scholarship.

She is a member of the International Network for Leave Policies and Research and has served as a consultant to governments, businesses and advocacy organizations around the world on the topic of parental leave policies for fathers. She is the recipient of an honorary doctorate in social sciences from Göteborg University in Sweden and the Trost Award for Outstanding Contributions to Comparative Family Studies from the National Council on Family Relations.

In 2011, from January through May, Haas was appointed interim associate vice chancellor for international affairs at IUPUI and interim associate vice president for international affairs for the Indiana University system. In those roles, Haas served as key cabinet member for the IU system-wide division of International Affairs as well as chief international officer for IUPUI, heading the Office of International Affairs.
