Mary Wennerstrom's publications include articles and reviews in the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, Intégral, Music Theory Spectrum, In Theory Only, and Indiana Theory Review. She has published editions of music and written a chapter in Aspects of Twentieth-Century Music as well as theory texts and anthologies, including the Anthology of Twentieth-Century Music.
Professor Wennerstrom is the former treasurer for the Society for Music Theory, and chair of the advanced placement test development committee in music for the Educational Testing Service. She is the former editor of the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy. Dr. Wennerstrom is the past chair of the committee of examiners for the GRE Revised Music Exam.
Professor Wennerstrom is the former chair of the Department of Music Theory at Indiana University. Her areas of special interest include theory pedagogy, musical form, and nineteenth- and twentieth-century musical structure. She is a recipient of a President's Distinguished Teaching Award from Indiana University, a lifetime achievement award from the Society for Music Theory, and the Gail Boyd de Stwolinski Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Music Theory Teaching and Scholarship.
