Edward "Ted" Stickles won swimming letters in 1962, 1963 and 1964. He won five Big Ten Championships in the 200 and 400 meter individual medleys from 1962-64 and won six AAU National Championships in the 200 and 400 meter individual medleys. At one time Ted held American and world records in both 200 and 400 meter individual medleys. He broke world records seven times and was team captain of the 1964 IU team that finished 2nd in the NCAA Championships. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1995.
