Richard won wrestling letters in 1932, 1933 and 1934 and was co-captain in 1934. In 1934 he was Big Ten and NCAA champion at 175 pounds. He had a perfect 12-0 record that season and 48-4 record for career. Richard was a member of three Big Ten championship teams and teams that won the NCAA championship in 1932 and 1933 and placed 2nd in 1934. Richard was a member of 1936 Olympic team that won a silver medal in Berlin and coached at Rutgers for 25 years with record of 148-85-8. Richard is a member of National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
