R. Raleigh E. "Buzz" Lingeman was a graduate of the IU School of Medicine. Upon his retirement from Indiana University School of Medicine, he was granted professor emeritus status.
Lingeman served in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He held a part-time staff position at Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Linegman served his community in private practice and was a member of the Head and Neck Surgery faculty at the IU School of Medicine for forty years. Lingeman served as chairman of that department for sixteen years as well as chairman of the Residency Review Committee for Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Lingeman is remembered for his research on the modification of a radical neck dissection for control of metastatic cancer to the neck. He authored and co-authored several books and published articles about cancer of the head and neck.
He was a member of Woodstock Country Club and patron of the Eiteljorg Museum.
