Don Hunt is the retirednPresident and Chief Operating Officer of Harris Trust and Savings Banks and its parent organization, Harris Bankcorp, Inc. With Assets of $16.2 billion, it is the fourth largest banking institution in Chicago and 46th in the United States. The Harris Organization operates 26 banks in the Chicago area, one in Arizona, and has trust affiliates in New York and Florida. It also owns Harris Bank International Corporation in New York and is a subsidiary of the Bank of Montreal, the tenth largest bank in North America.
Mr. Hunt serves as one of eight members of Bank of Montreal's Consolidated Management Committee, which is responsible for overall direction of the Bank of Montreal family of companies. He was named President of Harris in 1991 after serving as Executive Vice President of the Personal Financial Services Department. In this post he oversaw banking, trust and investment services for individuals including Harris's community of banks.
After receiving a BA degree in Government and International Relations from Carleton College in 1960, he earned a MBA degree in Finance from Indiana University in 1964. He then joined Harris and rose through successive positions in commercial lending, cash management, credit card, international banking, information systems and bank operations. He recently celebrated his thirtieth anniversary with Harris.
An active and dedicated member of his community, Mr. Hunt serves on the boards of trustees of both Carleton College and Roosevelt University, is a former Chairman of the University of Illinois Business Advisory Council, and is a member of Northwestern University Associates. From 1984 to 1991 he served as a board member of the elementary school system in Hinsdale, Illinois. In addition to his support of public education, Mr. Hunt is a member of the Executive Committee of Chicago United and has served on the Board of Directors of Family Care Services of Metropolitan Chicago since 1978.
Mr. Hunt and his wife, Jane, have two children and live in Chicago.
