Originally from the East Texas town of Texarkana, Greg holds degrees in Middle Eastern studies and Central Eurasian studies from the University of Texas, Austin and Indiana University, Bloomington. Before coming to Santa Barbara, he spent four years in Istanbul, Turkey-first as a recipient of a Fulbright research grant and then as a high school and university instructor. His areas of interest include critical cultural theory, Marxist and socialist thought, the Palestinian liberation struggle, post-9/11 imperialism, and radical film criticism. His writings have appeared in CineAction, Electronic Intifada, Journal of Popular Film and Television, Middle Eastern Studies, Quarterly Review of Film and Video, and other publications. In addition to his love of politics and film, Greg is also an avid banjo player.
