About Faridah Pawan

Faridah Pawan received her B.S. in Secondary Education, M.A. in Applied Linguistics, and Ph.D. in Language Education from Indiana University respectively in 1984, 1985, and 1995.

For a year, Pawan taught at the DePaul School for Dyslexia in Bloomington, and in 1984 became an Assistant Coordinator for the Native American Student Teaching project at Indiana University until 1985. She then moved to Malaysia where she was Lecturer on Language and Linguistics at the Universiti Malaya from 1986 to 1993. From 1990 to 1992, Pawan was an ESL Instructor at Language House, Inc., and an ESL/EFL University Consultant at Institut Aminuddin Baki for the Ministry of Education, both in Malasia. In 1993, she returned to Indiana University as an ESL Specialist in the Applied Linguistics/Center for English, and then was appointed to the Indiana University faculty in 2001, as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Language Education in the School of Education.

Pawan is a member of the Indiana Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, International Reading Association, Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, the Malaysian Reading Association, and the Bloomington Storytellers Guild.

Pawan was the recipient of the Civil Service Award for a Baccalaureate Degree from 1980 to 1983, the TESOL/Heinle and Heinle Excellence in Teaching Award for 2001, Universiti Malaya Award for Young Faculty Abroad pursuing a Ph.D. from 1987 to 1993, and the Malaysian Ministry of Education Award for a Masters Degree from 1983 to 1985.
