About Luis E. Fuentes-Rohwer

Luis E. Fuentes-Rohwer earned his LL.M. degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2001. Upon completion, he continued his education at the University of Michigan where he earned his J.D. and Ph.D. in political science in 1997 and 2001, respectively. Since joining the Indiana University (IU) School of Law faculty as an associate professor of law in 2002, Fuentes-Rohwer has held numerous appointments and titles at the university. In 2008, he was named the Neizer Fellow, and later, in 2019, he was awarded the additional, honorary title of Class of 1950 Herman B Wells Endowed Professorship.

Prior to joining the IU faculty, Fuentes-Rohwer held teaching positions at the Chicago-Kent College of Law and the University of Minnesota Law School. At IU, he teaches and writes in the areas of civil rights and legal history, with a particular emphasis on constitutional law and the Reconstruction Era. His scholarship focuses on the intersection of race and democratic theory, as reflected in the law of democracy in general and the Voting Rights Act in particular. He is interested in the way that institutions—and especially courts—are asked to craft and implement the ground rules of American politics.

Fuentes-Rohwer's involvement with IU spans beyond the traditional classroom environment. He has served as a faculty advisor to UndocuHoosier Alliance, Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, the BLSA prelaw group, and Latino Male Imitative.
