Harold M. Manifold, M.D., was a Bloomington surgeon who maintained his own practice for over four decades from 1959 to 2000. He received a B.S. degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN in 1943 and graduated from Indiana University Medical School in 1945. Dr. Manifold was inducted into the Army as a PFC while in medical school, and later served at Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, as a 1st Leut. and then Capt. in 1946-48 and at Fort Bragg, NC with the 82nd Airborne as a division artillery surgeon in 1948-49.
After completing his military service in 1949, Dr. Manifold opened a private practice in Fortville, IN. He served on the town board and as Chief of Staff at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, IN and remained there until 1959. Next, he moved his family and practice to Bloomington, IN. Dr. Manifold's service to the community included Chief of Staff at Bloomington Hospital, member of Monroe County School Board, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Murat Temple, Lion's Club, Elks Club, Indiana University Alumni Association, and I.U. Medical Alumni Association, (including past president, and recipient of the Maynard K. Hine Award), Varsity Club and Hoosier Hundred, Well House and Woodburn Guild.
He passed away in Bloomington on March 31, 2011.
