About Thomas W. McKean

Thomas W. McKean is a 1953 graduate of IUSD, during which he served as an ensign of the U.S. Naval Reserve during his dental education. Having been promoted to active duty during his last year of dental education, McKean was later advanced to the rank of Rear Admiral in 1980.

In addition to his extraordinary military career, McKean has had a successful dental career. He leads Florida Hospital SHARES International, in which his work on the behalf of children around the world has created medical partnership programs that benefit those who could not otherwise afford medical treatment. Under McKean's leadership, the SHARES International Board has recruited energetic and committed members, has implemented a far-sighted strategic planning process and has fine-tuned its host country relationships.
