Dr. Lawrence I. Goldblatt is currently Professor of Oral Pathology, and Dean Emeritus of Indiana University School of Dentistry. Goldblatt received his undergraduate and dental education at Georgetown University, from which he received his DDS degree. Following three years on active duty with the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, one year of which was a rotating dental internship, he completed his MSD degree in oral pathology at Indiana University. He served on the faculty at Indiana University from 1973-1993, where he reached the rank of Professor of Oral Pathology and served as Associate Dean for Academic and Graduate Affairs. From 1994-1996 he served as Professor of Oral Pathology and Dean of the School of Dentistry of Case Western Reserve University. Goldblatt became dean of IUSD in 1997 and served until 2010, in which he stepped down to return to teaching full time.
Goldblatt has been involved in the teaching of dental students, allied dental students, graduate dental students and in continuing dental education. His principal research interests have been in the ultrastructure of oral disease and in oral precancerous lesions, and he has published a number of papers on these and other topics in peer-reviewed journals. Goldblatt has been active in a variety of professional organizations at the local and national levels, including the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, the American and International Associations for Dental Research, the American Dental Education Association (formerly known as the American Association of Dental Schools), and the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations. Goldblatt is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, past-president of the Supreme Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and and past commissioner and Chair of the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations. He currently serves as a commissioner on the Commission on Dental Accreditation and is a member of the Administrative Board of the Council of Deans of the American Dental Education Association.
