Gary Ingersoll is a professor emeritus of education who spent 38 years at Indiana University. He is also a former dean of the College of Education at United Arab Emirates University, which he led from 2008 to 2010. Currently, he acts as an independent education consultant in Bloomington.
Ingersoll holds degrees from State University of New York at Oswego and Penn State University. He joined the IU School of Education faculty in 1973 as an associate professor. Ingersoll became a full professor in 1986 and retired from IU in 2008. During his tenure, he also was the director for the Education Technology Services, the Center for Adolescent Studies, and the School of Medicine's Indiana Diabetes Research and Training Center. Ingersoll assumed administrative duties in 1990 as an associate dean for the School of Education, and he acted as an adjunct faculty member for the School of Dentistry in the 1980s. IUSD named him a honorary alumni in 1987 for his work at the school.
