About Sandra K. Searcy

Sandy Searcy earned a bachelor's degree in sport science from IU in 1986 and a master's degree in sport administration and physical education in 1987. Searcy was a member of the IU swim team for one season before an injury ended her competitive career. A trailblazer and ambassador for the IU Alumni Association, she has been a key volunteer linking IUAA and the IU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics where she was a charter member of the I-Women's Association, and was an early champion for merging the I-Men's and I-Women's associations, raising the profile of female student-athletes. She was the first woman chair of the I Association, and her efforts were instrumental in establishing the Leanne Grotke Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the IU women's athletics programs.

Searcy has been a pillar in Indiana athletics first serving as the girls (1984-1999) and boys (1986-1996) swimming coach and then as the girls' athletic director (1988-1999) at Bloomington High School North. She joined the IHSAA as an Assistant Commissioner in 1999 and is responsible for softball, boys' and girls' swimming and diving, and volleyball. Her duties have also entailed organizing the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee, plus the IHSAA Student Leadership Conference. At the national level, she has served on the NFHS National Student Leadership Planning Committee since 1999, the 2006-11 NFHS Gymnastics Rules Committee, the 2008-11 NFHS Softball Rules Committee, and is a member of the NFHS Spirit of Sport Committee.
