John Brooks came to Indiana University in 1962 on a full track scholarship, running the 400 meter and anchoring the 4x400 meter relay team earning him the title of captain for his senior year. He earned his undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees at Indiana University, eventually beginning his career working for the Department of Financial Aid for his alma mater. John worked his way into the position of Direct of Corporate and Foundation Relations for the University and Executive Director of the Twenty-First Century Scholars program.
He worked for the University for 40 years before retiring from his position. John has become an influential speaker about race relations during his time at Indiana University, frequently discussing plans for the Neal Marshall Black Culture Center. John also served on the board of directors for the I Association.
