Former Mitchell High School and Indiana University football star Terry Cole was drafted into the NFL and played for the Baltimore Colts, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins. Highlights of his football career included the 1967 Old Oaken Bucket victory that sent the Hoosiers to the Rose Bowl, three Super Bowl appearances, and membership on the undefeated Miami Dolphins team of 1972.
After his NFL career, Terry started several small businesses and was president of Cole-Chem, a diversified specialty chemical company. Terry was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 1992 and received the Zora Clevenger award in 2005, the highest honor given to a former IU athlete. In September of 2000, the Mitchell High School football field was officially renamed Terry Cole Field.
