Born in Chrisman, Illinois, Clifford Myers grew up in Bloomington where he participated in athletics at Bloomington High School. He was a wrestler for IU from 1936-38, establishing an outstanding record; winning the Big 10 championship in 1936-37. He was captain of the 1937 wrestling team, and that same year was awarded the Balfour Award in wrestling.
Following graduation, Myers returned to Bloomington High School and served first as assistant wrestling coach, then head coach from 1943-63. His teams compiled an outstanding record, winning nine IHSAA state championships. He retired from the Monroe County Community School Corporation in 1973 after serving as assistant to the superintendent. Myers was inducted into the Indiana Hall of Fame, qualifying as a wrestler, coach and contributor.
