Don R. Luft won football letters in 1949, 1950, and 1951. He won a basketball letter in 1951, and won baseball letters in 1951 and 1952. He was the last person in IU history to letter in three sports in one year. and was honored by the Big Ten Coaches as the Most Valuable Football Lineman in 1951. Following service with the U.S Army, he played professional football from 1954-57 with the Philadelphia Eagles.
After leaving pro football, Luft coached high school basketball and served as assistant and freshman basketball coach at IU from 1961-68. He then went on to direct the IU Varsity Club from 1968-71. He also served as color commentator for IU on TV from 1976-1979. Following that, he was an investment broker for Traub & Co. and Summers & Co., served as executive director of Bloomington's Convention and Visitors Bureau, and was regional vice-president of A.L. Williams Financial Services.
