About Campbell G. Kane

Campbell G. Kane was a two-time NCAA champion for the Hoosiers. He graduated from IU in 1942, and recorded career-best times of 1:51 and 4:11 in the 880-yard and mile runs, respectively. He never finished below second in the 880y race at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in his three years as a Hoosier. He was the 1940 and 1941 NCAA champion and claimed individual Big Ten championships in both the indoor 880y and mile run, in 1940, 1941, and 1942. He was also the outdoor conference champion in both events in 1941 and 1942.

The three-time All-American was also a member of Indiana's 1940 NCAA cross country championship team. Kane was inducted into the IU Hall of Fame in 1985. He was an IU Balfour Award winner in 1940, 1941 and 1942 and a Clevenger Award winner in 1975. Kane was selected to the 1940 United States Olympic team. However, the games were cancelled due to World War II.
