Dr. Evermann, a 1886 graduate of Indiana University, was in 1926 director of the Museum of the California Academy of Sciences, and also of the Steinhart Aquarium in 1927. In the citation he received at the ceremony for his honorary doctorate it mentions his earlier position as director of scientific investigations in the Bureau of Fisheries and curator of fishes in the National Museum, and of his eminence as a naturalist and as an ichthyologist. Because of their connection with David Starr Jordan and Eigenmann, IU sold their collection of fishes to the California Academy of Sciences in 1929.
