About Robert K. Demaree

Robert K. Demaree earned his B.S.M. in 1984 from Indiana University. He is professor of music at the University of Wisconsin - Platteville, and he is the director of the chamber choir (a select 35-voice ensemble), the Core d' Angeli (a select 50-voice women's choir), and the Singing Pioneers (a select 40-voice men's chorus). He also serves as director of the Chamber Singers (an alumni ensemble of 85 - 100).

Demaree teaches music history, private voice, conducting, secondary choral methods, and choral literature. During his time as chair of recruiting and scholarships, from 1993 to 2000, music major enrollment increased from 26 to 93.

For his community, Demaree is the director/conductor of the Heartland Singers, a 24-voice professional choir made up of singers and music teachers from across the state of Wisconsin; gives private conducting lessons; and has conducted the University/Community Orchestra. He was the artistic director of the Heartland Festival - a summer festival that produces 22 performances over six weeks - from inception of the event in 1999 until July 2003.

Demaree's résumé also includes such accomplishments as Washington State University academic staff, director of the Old Gold Singers at the University of Iowa, assistant conductor of the concert choir at the University of Illinois, conductor of Illini Women at University of Illinois, music director of Platteville Chorale, and music director of the First English Lutheran Church, both of Platteville, Wis. Demaree has served as a guest clinician many times and has conducted numerous workshops or qualifying clinics at Wisconsin high schools. He is also a professional chorister and continues his vocal solo career as well.

Demaree was honored to receive the Singing Hoosier's Distinguished Alumni Award, as his father won the same award so many years ago. He also celebrated in the fact that he and his wife, Rebekah, received the award at the same time.
