Dr. William Brattain is the associate WIU vice president emeritus for student services and recreation and the park and tourism administration professor emeritus at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. He served as the Director of the University Union for more than 24 years, and was instrumental in providing leadership opportunities for students who have achieved great success in the campus activities field. During his tenure at the university, Dr Brattain led the construction and creation of the Student Recreation Center, which was the first campus facility built exclusively for student use in decades. He was was the recipient of WIU's Community Service Award and Outstanding Administrator Award and was named Honorary Alumni in 2007. His alma mater, Indiana University, also awarded him the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation John R. Endwright Alumni Service Award in 1996.
Dr. Brattain was active in his field and the local community. He served as chair of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Campus Activities and wrote the definitive textbook, The Administration of College Unions and Campus Activities. In addition, Dr. Brattain served as the chair of the Carl Sandburg Community College Board of Trustees and helped develop a positive working relationship between the community and campus on behalf of the Bureau of Cultural Affairs and the Performing Arts Society.
