Martha Lea Jackson Armstrong was born in October 1916 in Oakland City, Indiana, daughter to John N. and Bess Jackson. She grew up in Owensboro, Kentucky and graduated from Owensboro Sr. High School, then attended Western Kentucky, Duke, and Indiana University.
Martha Lea was a teaching in Owensboro, before moving to Bloomington, where she had been active in Tri Kappa, Gamma Phi Beta, First Christian Church, The University Women's Club, served as the Bill and Martha Lea Armstrong Scholarship Chair (at the School of Education), and involved with many activities at the IU Foundation.
In 2001, she was presented the IU Foundation's President's Medallion.
Martha Lea passed away on December 25, 2005 at the age of 89.
