Christine M. Nichols did not stop at one sport to make her mark at IUPUI. She excelled at both softball and basketball from 1981-86, earning eight varsity letters along the way. In softball, Nichols is third at IUPUI in career triples (19), fourth in RBIs (120), fifth in runs (147) and doubles (30), sixth in hits (174), eighth in batting average (.357). She hit 10 triples in 1985, ranking her second all-time for triples in a season. Playing both second base and shortstop, she batted .409 in 1983, when IUPUI placed fifth in its first appearance in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national tournament. Nichols was named NAIA first-team All-American in softball in 1983 and second-team All-American in 1985 and was a member of the all-district team from 1982-85. As a member of the IUPUI basketball team, she was co-Most Valuable Player and rebound leader in 1983 and was a member of the all-district team in 1983 and 1984.
A 1986 graduate with a bachelor's degree in physical education, Nichols is international/trades administrator and head of the customer service group at Inland Paperboard and Packaging, Inc., in Indianapolis.
She says, "In both education and athletics at IUPUI, I have met some quality people I respect...I am truly honored we have remained friends through the years."
