David V. Loertscher is a professor at San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science. Prior to teaching at SJSU, he taught at Purdue University, University of Arkansas, and University of Oklahoma. In addition, he is the president of Hi Willow Research and Publishing. Loertscher's career focuses on transforming the school library and computer lab into a learning commons, creating new types of learning environments and strategies that combines teaching and learning into a new setting. His research centers around new literacies and learning.
Loertscher has degrees from the University of Utah, the University of Washington and a Ph.D. from Indiana University. He has worked as a school library media specialist in Nevada and Idaho at both the elementary and secondary school levels. Loertscher served as head of the editorial department at Libraries Unlimited for ten years and is a past president of the American Association of School Librarians.
