Brad Schaffner is the College Librarian for the Lawrence McKinley Gould Library at Carlton College, where he was appointed to in 2012. Prevously, Schaffner was the head of the Slavic division at the Harvard College Library at Harvard University. Before taking the position at Harvard in 2004, Schaffner was employed more than fifteen years at the Watson Library at the University of Kansas. His positions there included Russian and East Slavic studies bibliographer, head of the Slavic department, and head of international programs.
While a student at SLIS, Schaffner worked in Slavic cataloging and acquisitions for the Indiana University Libraries. In addition to authoring Bibliography of the Soviet Union, he has published articles in College & Research Libraries, Collection Management, and Slavic & East European Information Resources and contributed chapters to several scholarly books. Schaffner, a Minnesota native, received a BA from Gustavus Adolphus College, where he majored in history and geography, and an MA in history from IU.
