About Robert P. Barone

Robert P. Barone is the Director of Cardtronics, Inc. He was president and chief operating officer of Diebold, Incorporated, a world leader in the automation of self-service transactions, security products, and software and service for these systems.

Founded in 1859 as a manufacturer of security equipment, Diebold today manufactures, sells, and services automated teller machines, point of sale terminals, video dispensing machines, security systems, facility products, and software and systems for U.S. and international financial, retail, commercial, and government markets. Diebold is headquartered in Canton, Ohio.

A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Mr. Barone graduated from Indiana University in 1961 with a master's degree in business administration. Prior to joining Diebold, he was associated with NCR Corporation, Lazarus Company, and Xerox Corporation.

Mr. Barone joined Diebold in 1971 as product manager for Remote Banking Systems; became general manager, Automatic Banking Systems, in 1974; and was named a group vice president in 1982. During this time, the company reached a position of leadership in the automatic banking field.

In 1983, Mr. Barone was appointed senior vice president, with responsibility for the company's domestic and international sales and field systems support. He was named senior vice president, sales and marketing, in 1984, and in 1988 was elected president and chief operating officer. At the same time he was also elected to the Diebold Board of Directors.

Mr. Barone is a member of the board of directors of Hidromex, S.A. de C.V., a Diebold distributor in Mexico. He is chairman of the Electronic Funds Transfer Association (EFTA) Research and Planning Council and a former director and chairman of EFTA. He is also a member of the Bank Marketing Association.

Mr. Barone has been an active member of the council of the Stark County (Ohio) School Board appointed to redesign the instruction of science and math courses. He also belongs to the Firestone Country Club and Congress Lake Club. He resides in North Canton, Ohio, with his wife, Jan. They have three daughters.
