About Edward A. Schrader

Born in Kokomo, Indiana, Edward A. Schrader graduated from Indiana University, magna cum laude, in 1934. Among his academic achievements was his service as a member of the Board of Aeons, a group of outstanding students appointed to advise the President on student matters. He was also elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa.

After graduation from Harvard University School of Business with an M.B.A. degree, Mr. Schrader joined the brokerage and banking firm of Goldman, Sachs, and Company in New York City and became a partner in the firm in 1949. Since 1957 he has served on the Management Committee which directs the policies of the company, and he also has been an active director of a number of other companies, such as Gimbel Brothers, Inc., Federal Paper Board Company, and Vulcan Materials Company.

He has maintained strong ties with his alma mater over the years. In recognition of his many contributions to Indiana University activities, he was awarded an honorary LL.D. degree in 1966. In 1967 he served as National Chairman of the I.U. Foundation Annual Giving Campaign.

In recent years his support of archaeology on the IU campus has helped to develop a series of extensive and important excavations in Greece and has led to the establishment of one of the most attractive graduate programs in classical archaeology offered in this country.
