Edward Martin Kindle was born on March 10, 1869. He was a graduate of Indiana State University and completed a M.Sc. at Cornell University. His Ph.D. was from Yale University.
During his career as a paleontologist and geologist, he worked as Assistant Geologist to the Indiana State Survey. He was appointed Geologist to the Federal Survey at Washington In 1901. He joined the Geological Survey of Canada as Invertebrate Paleontologist in 1918. Kindle was awarded an honorary degree - Doctor of Laws - by President Herman B Wells at Indiana University in 1939. He held the position of Chief of the Division of Paleontology at the Geological Survey of Canada until he retired.
