Elwood Haynes Hillis entered Indiana University to earn a B.S. degree in Business and then a J.D. Following graduation, he became a member of his family's legal firm, participating in many facets of his community's activities and serving two terms in the Indiana State Legislature before election to the U.S. House of Representatives.
In Washington, Congressman Hillis has been a member of the Armed Services and the veterans Affairs Committees and numerous subcommittees and caucuses, and the co-founder of the Congressional Auto Task Force, for members whose districts are impacted by the auto industry. He is past president of the Howard County IU Alumni Association and his area's varsity Club, a member of the Hoosier Hundred, and a life member of the Alumni Association, and is ever ready to perform services for his university and its alumni association.
