William won football letters in 1963, 1964 and 1965 and was captain in 1965. He was Indiana's Most Valuable Player in 1965 and first team All-Big Ten selection in 1964. William led IU in receiving three seasons and set IU career record for career receptions. He set a season record for receptions in 1964 and set a career record for yardage. He also set season record for yardage and set 10 records for season and career touchdown passes. William played in the 1965 East-West game and later played in the NFL for 10 years with Detroit and Washington..
