Stephen E. Sterrett is the chief financial officer of Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group, Inc., an S&P 500 company and the largest U.S. real estate company. Simon Property Group is uniquely positioned as an owner, operator and developer across multiple retail formats: regional malls, Premium Outlets™, The Mills™, community/lifestyle centers and international properties. The Company currently owns or has an interest in approximately 390 properties in North America, Europe and Asia.
Mr. Sterrett joined the Simon organization in 1988, and has been the Chief Financial Officer since 2000. Prior to joining the company he was a senior manager with the international accounting firm of Price Waterhouse.
Mr. Sterrett is a native of Indianapolis, and holds a B.S. degree in accounting and an M.B.A. in finance, both from Indiana University.
He is active in several civic organizations, including currently serving on the boards of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, Indiana Golf Foundation, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. He is a former board member of Simon Youth Foundation, Indianapolis Downtown Inc., Crossroads of America Council Boy Scouts of America, Christian Theological Seminary Goodwill Industries Foundation, Catholic Youth Organization, Geist Christian Church, Lawrence Township Schools Foundation and of Training Inc.
Steve is active in several professional organizations, including the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts, the International Council of Shopping Centers and is a past member of the Indiana CPA Society. He currently serves on the board of the Indiana University Center for Real Estate Studies and the Kelley School of Business Board of Visitors.
He resides in Indianapolis with his wife of 32 years, Betty. They have two adult children, Kim and Jeff.
