About James W. Robinson

James W. Robinson is a successful businessman from Southern Indiana. He was born in Clay County, Indiana and raised in New Albany, IN. He attended University of Louisville. In 1943, Robinson co-founded Robinson Machine Works with his father and brother. Robinson Machine Works then became Robinson Nugent, Inc. in 1965 and went public in 1975. He later sold the company, and invested in other companies.

After retiring in 1987, Robinson became more involved in civic service. He has served on sixteen different boards of directors and three nonprofit boards. He has been a guest lecturer at Ball State University and Ivy Tech Community College.

At his retirement, Robinson had ownership in many companies. He served on sixteen boards of directors when his company sold. He, at that point, served on three nonprofit boards as well. Robinson has served as a guest lecturer at several colleges and universities, including Ball State University and Ivy Tech Community College. In 2005, he and his wife invested a million dollars to name the James W. Robinson Junior Achievement Center for Freedom of Enterprise. For his community service, IU-Southeast awarded him the Chancellor's Medallion in 2001.
