Dr. John E. Reisert, Ed.D., is the Professor Emeritus of Education at Indiana University-Southeast. He grew up in Greenville, IN and graduated from Indiana University in 1964. Reisert is a founding board member of Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County, where there is a scholarship to IUS in his name.
Dr. Reisert spent 43 years in education, 35 of which was in the Indiana University system, including 25 at IU-Southeast where he was professor, acting chancellor for a year, and academic dean of the education department. Prior to his time at the university, he taught in the New Albany school district for ten years and was the principal at Fairmont Elementary School for four years.
After he retired from education, Reisert decided to run for Floyd County Commissioner in 1998, which he won and served eight years until 2006. During his tenure, he added new zoning and subdivision control ordinances, increased the staff size, and improved ambulance services in the county.
He was the recipient of the Chancellor's Medallion in 2007.
