About Allen Paul
Allen Paul, a native of Richmond, Indiana, graduated with an associate’s degree from Richmond Ivy Tech. He then completed a bachelor’s of arts at Parson’s College, Fairfield, Iowa. He was the Indiana State Senator representing the 27th District (including Richmond, IN), from 1986-2014. As a Republican, he has chaired the Insurance & Financial Institutions committee and was the former Assistant Majority Caucus Chairman and Assistant Majority Whip. Currently, he serves on the committees of Homeland Security, Transportation & Veterans Affairs, Public Safety Subcommittee, Insurance/Financial Institutions, and Commerce, Economic Development & Technology.
Paul, an Army veteran, served in the First Air Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War, and is a retired Brigadier General of the Indiana National Guard Reserve. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the President's Award for Service in honor of his military work.
Paul is also heavily involved in civic service. He is a member of the Board of Trustees at Howe School, the Advisory Board at Indiana University East, American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, Richmond, Winchester, & Portland Chambers of Commerce, Rotary, AMVETS, Marine Corps League, United Way, Yoke Fellow Luncheon Group, and Alumni Board of Directors for Howe Military School. He is a former GOP Precinct Committeeman and past president of Tau Kappa Epsilon National Fraternity.
In 2017, Indiana University awarded Allen Paul with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters at its spring commencement ceremony in Richmond, Indiana for his outstanding achievement to the humanities, and for his continued commitment to community engagement and public service.
