Stanley Vigran, a lifelong Richmond resident was involved in many civic projects before his death in 2004. He was especially instrumental in establishing Indiana University East and is considered as one of the founders of the institution. He believed strongly the organization had tremendous capacity to drive significant, long-term economic growth.
During his life, he served as a Wayne County Foundation board member, and created the Vigran Family Foundation to support causes in education, religion, and the arts. His family continues to run the foundation to this day. The foundation gave IU East a half million dollars to create and support a medical education program/partnership with Reid Hospital in 2011 to allow IU medical students to complete their third and fourth years in Richmond, IN.
