George Ellis Armstrong (B.A. 1922; M.D. 1925) was a decorated military officer, surgeon, orthopedist, and urologist, who contributed twenty-five articles to medical literature while serving in the U.S. Army. After his promotion to Brigadier General, he served from 1951--1955 as Surgeon General of the Army. Armstrong received the Legion of Merit, the World War I Victory Medal, World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and was recognized by the governments of Italy, China, Korea, France, and Chile.
