The Rev. Dr. Robert Lowery was an adjunct professor at IU Northwest from 1982 until 2002. He also served the community in a variety of other capacities and was a board member for organizations such as the NAACP, the Northwest Indiana Urban League, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana, the Lake County Mental Health Association, and the Gary Educational Development Foundation, among many others. Lowery was also an inductee into the Gary Steel City Hall of Fame.
He was also dedicated to the service of St. Timothy Community Church in Gary, IN as a pastor. He began his ministry at the church in 1957 after earning his masters of divinity from Garret Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. of ministry from Chicago Theological Seminary. Due to his decades-long service to the church and the surrounding community, he receieved the the 1990 State of Indiana Sagamore of the Wabash Award, the 1996 Calumet College St. Joseph the Worker Award, and the 1997 Indiana University-Northwest Chancellor's Medallion Award Citation.
Rev. Dr. Lowery passed away on July 10, 2007.
