IU Southeast Distinguished Alumni Award - 2002

About John Crase

Dr. John Crase is the owner and head of Family Physicians of Southern IN, PC in New Albany, IN. He earned his bachelor's and medical degrees from Indiana University, and is board certified in family medicine. Crase is also the chief of the medical staff at Floyd Memorial Hospital.

While Crase attended IU Southeast in the 1980s, he served with the campus activities group, eventually becoming vice president of the organization. He was IU Southeast’s Student Government Association president during his senior year. He was named the 1983-84 IU Southeast Outstanding Student, and when he graduated, a number of his classmates joined him in heading to the IU School of Medicine.

Crase eventually returned to Southern Indiana to begin his practice. He opened his own office in 1994 before eventually partnering with a few other doctors to form Family Physicians of Southern Indiana in 1999. Around that same time, Crase began to reconnect with his alma mater. He served as a member of the IU Southeast Board of Advisors from 2000-06. When his term ended, a former professor, Ben Nassim, who was then Dean of the School of Natural Sciences, tapped Crase to become a member of the Natural Sciences Advisory Board. Just when he thought he was finished serving, the IU Southeast Alumni Association came calling. Crase joined the alumni board in 2010. For his efforts at IU Southeast and his distinguished career outside of the campus, Crase received the IU Southeast Distinguished Alumni Award in 2002.
