About J. Robert Shine
An inspiring community leader and a true philanthropist, J. Robert Shine played many roles for Indiana University over the years; from outstanding student, to regional campus advisor, to ardent sports enthusiast. Heading one of the largest independent certified public accounting firms in southern Indiana and Kentucky, he contributed to the accounting profession as president of the Indiana CPA Society, and through his activities at regional and national levels.
The mission of IU Southeast has remained at the top of Shine's agenda, and he continuously helped strengthen the interaction between the University and his Ohio River community. By his presence on the Board of Advisors of the New Albany campus, helping it gain accreditation for its business programs and attracting high-quality students to accounting programs, and by serving on the search committee for a new chancellor of the campus, Shine's contributions remain invaluable.
He was president of the School of Business Alumni Association and received its Distinguished Entrepreneur Award, and gave enthusiastic support to IU's intercollegiate athletic programs, the Alumni Association, and the Foundation- for which he served as chairman of the Campaign for Indiana steering committee for southeastern Indiana.
Shine was born and raised in New Albany, Indiana. Shine earned his B.S. from Indiana University in 1945, and served as the president of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
