Ron S. Reinstein, J.D. '73, is a retired Superior Court judge in Phoenix, AZ, and a nationally recognized expert on DNA evidence in sex crimes. Reinstein was appointed to the Superior Court in Maricopa County in 198 and has continued to serve since then. He served as a criminal presiding judge from 1990 to 1998, and as an associate presiding judge of the court from 1998 to 2000. At the time of retirement, Reinstein was on the Juvenile Court bench.
When the Commission on Victims in the Courts was created in 2006, Reinstein was appointed as its chair. The commission reviews and submits policy recommendations and procedures to improve victim access and ensure fair treatment during their involvement in the criminal justice system. He also serves on the National Commission on the Future of DNA Evidence, of which he chairs the Post-Conviction Issues Committee; the National Advisory Board of the U.S. Department of Justice Center for Sex Offender Management; and the Arizona Governor's Children's Justice Task Force. Throughout his career, Reinstein has been recognized with awards such as the Arizona Judicial Branch Distinguished Service Award, the Attorney General's Distinguished Service Award for Victims and Victims' Rights, and induction into the Indiana University School of Law Academy of Law Alumni Fellows.
