Marty Gersey has been with Indiana University for over 20 years, and is currently Director of Safety and Security and serves as Chief of Police for the South Bend campus. In this role, Marty is responsible for campus-wide oversight for policy and strategy across the scope of law enforcement and safety. He also serves as the campus coordinator of disaster and emergency services, oversees campus environmental health and safety functions and manages all functions relating to the campus Parking Services Department. He actively facilitates and visibly engages in communications and collaboration amongst various campus, university, local and state entities.
Before his current appointment, Marty served as a visiting lecturer in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs Criminal Justice Department where he taught criminal justice courses and established the IUSB/SPEA Criminalistics Laboratory, which is used for student instruction in crime scene investigation. Gersey also provided initial oversight and training for the first evidence technicians assigned to the St. Joseph County Special Crimes Unit. He served as an adjunct lecturer in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs for over fifteen years during which he achieved Merit status.
Gersey has an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice, Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs and Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University.
