About Nathaniel Jones

Nathaniel Jones is the superintendent of Pike Township Public School District in Indianapolis. Jones attended Indiana University, earning three degrees including a doctorate in education.

Since he grew up in Indianapolis, Jones decided to join the Indianapolis Public School system as an elementary school and adult education teacher for five years after completing his time at IU. In 1980, Jones began working in school administration at the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township in Indianapolis, becoming one of the youngest school principals in the state at the age of 27. During his 23 years at Washington Township, Jones served as principal, director of elementary education, and assistant superintendent of curriculum/instruction. In 2003, he became the first African-American to become the superintendent of Pike Township Public School District.

Jones has received numerous awards throughout his career in education. He received the IU School of Education Distinguished Alumni Award, the Milken Educator Award, the Center for Leadership (CLD) Achiever Award, the Sagamore of the Wabash, and he was selected as one of the 100 top administrators in North America by the Executive Educator.
