Kern Alexander is the Professor of Excellence at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School of Education. Previously, he was the president of Western Kentucky University (1985-1988) and Murray State University (1994-2001). At University of Illinois, Alexander is the coordinator of the Leary Endowment and Editor of the Journal of Education Finance.
Alexander earned his B.A. from Centre College in 1961 and captained its football team as the quarterback. He later received a master's degree from Western Kentucky University in 1962, and his doctorate in educational administration from IU in 1965. His academic career includes professorships at University of Florida - Gainesville, Virginia Tech University, and University of North Florida. He also cofounded the Oxford Round Table, a series of conferences at various college in the University of Oxford. Alexander is well regarded as an expert on education finance, having written 25 books on education finance and law, and served as an expert in state school finance litigation.
