Kenneth Woodruff was a director of adult education at Portage Township High Schools. He held a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Indiana University and served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army for two years after his 1956 graduation. Woodruff began his career in education as a guidance counselor and ultimately became the director of adult education for Portage until his retirement in 1991.
Woodruff was known for his dedication to education and literacy at the state and local level, earning numerous awards. Acclaim includes the Indianapolis Star "Jefferson Award" for community service and the Outstanding Adult Educator in Indiana, both in 1978, Porter County Youth Service Bureau Award in 1982, and the IU School of Education Outstanding Alumni Award in 1991. Woodruff was active in the local community, having served on the Valparaiso City Council for eight years, the BZA and Plan Commission, as well as various community advisory boards.
